The Ethnology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is a research institution in its composition dates back to 1874. There are seven scientific departments within the Institute, including the Department of Historical Ethnology (headed by Prof. S. Pavlyuk), Department of Ethnology of the present day (headed by D.Sc. Y.Taras), Department of Social Anthropology (head of the Historical Department Sciences I. Markov), Department of Art Studies (leader - D.M., Prof. V.Ovsiychuk), Department of Folk Art (leader - Candidate L.Gerus), Department of Folklore Studies (Ph.D., prof. V. Sokil).
