Kenneth Branagh has revealed that he doesn't see his character in the upcoming Jack Ryan film as a villain.
The Oscar-winning actor confirmed that he would be starring as a Russian baddie and directing the upcoming reboot at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles, reported Collider.com.
"I don't tend to think of him as a villain, but if you're playing a villain, you don't think of him as a villain. You just think, 'My guy'," said the actor, who will star alongside Chris Pine.
"The character is a great antithesis, but it isn't as simple as that. It's great to see a character in this film with Jack Ryan. It's just a very strong, very interesting, complicated, complex character."
Kenneth - who currently stars in BBC One crime drama Wallander - said he likes switching between theatre, TV and film.
"Variety is very, very good. Going from medium to medium, if you get the chance to do it, which are all distinctly different, keeps me sharp. Jack Ryan is a very fast-paced, very contemporary, very action-driven thriller," said the 51-year-old.
The Jack Ryan reboot, which will start filming in September, will star Chris as the CIA agent hero of Tom Clancy's spy thriller novels, who has to try to save America after uncovering a terrorist plot.
The actor-director from Northern Ireland also revealed how he would like to make a 3D Shakespeare movie in IMAX.
"As a filmmaker, I would like to do an IMAX 3D Shakespeare film. I fancy a 40-minute A Midsummer Night's Dream in IMAX 3D," he said.
